There is a pathologic condition where the ankle bone (talus) slides from its normal alignment on the heel bone (calcaneus). Instantly, the forces that should pass through the back of the heel are shifted to the inner front of the foot. The ankle turns inward and the forefoot turns outward. It’s possible that there are other causes that can be combined with the ankle bone displacement.
The majority of people with flat or misaligned feet will never experience any pain or symptoms in their feet. However, they will eventually develop pain or symptoms somewhere in their body. In children this can show up as “growing” pains or shin splints. In adults, it can show up as chronic pain to your knees, hips and back. Once the ankle bone slips from its natural alignment on the heel bone this alters the foundation of the body. The knee twists, the leg is pulled from the hip, the pelvis tilts, and this creates a strain on the back.
Misaligned feet are worse than misaligned tires on your car, simply because it’s easy to replace the tires on your car. Yet we ignore our feet and suffer. The time is now to learn more.
The leading cause to nearly every chronic foot problems stems from a misaligned hindfoot. Unfortunately, most foot specialists treat the secondary conditions associated with a displaced ankle bone, yet they ignore or undertreat the underlying cause. Because of that reason, the leading complication to the treatment of hammertoes, bunions, heel pain, tendon dysfunction, to name a few, is recurrence of the original problem.
